Springfield Armory M1D Garand sniper with M84 scope. Serial number 2779023 dates to  April 1944. Barrel is Springfield, dated June 1952. All parts are described below and shown in pictures, no import marks. This M1D was originally sold through the Civilian Marksmanship Program, CMP certificate is included.

This rifle is in excellent used condition and shoots great. The previous owner provided test targets, see photos.

Leather cheekpad marked “MRT 3-59” is included, along with a web sling, scope case, flash hider, sight and op rod covers and a cleaning kit.

 

Springfield M1D sn 2779023 Specs:

 

Receiver: marked “D 28291 32” on leg, heat lot A13C<>. Excellent condition, no pitting. Finish (not original) shows very little wear.

Barrel: marked “S-A-6-52” in op rod slot, also marked “P” with punch mark, “A”, “T”, and “P”. Bore is bright like new, rifling and crown excellent, chrome pads at gas port. External finish is in excellent condition.

Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Wear: <1, Throat Erosion:  2

Scope: marked “TELESCOPE M84 SERIAL NO. 10968”. Complete with rubber eyepiece and objective shield. No internal debris or particles. Crosshair (post type) sharp and complete. No dents, external finish very good, no pitting. Manufacturer Leupold & Stevens, note no white border around serial number.

Scope mount: GI, good condition

Lower band: 2-piece flat top with solid pin, staked

Clip latch: late square front type, unmarked

Op rod: curved side, modified, marked “D35382 3 SA. Exc condition, no pitting, normal finish wear

Op rod catch: late type, unmarked

Bullet guide: stamped with notch, unmarked

Follower: late type, marked “13”

Follower arm: no bevel

Follower rod: long fork, riveted

Bolt: marked “D28287-17SA B4A”

Sight knobs: postwar T105 type, windage marked “DRC”, elevation marked “SSH”

Rear sight cover: late type with ribs

Rear sight aperture: double track, unmarked

Trigger housing:  marked “D28290-12-SA” Small pad, cloverleaf hole, excellent condition, no pitting

Trigger guard: stamped with milled hook

Trigger: late type, no extra hole

Hammer: marked “C46008-2 SA”

Hammer spring plunger: late type without wings

Safety: round top, marked “SA_11”

Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring. Gas cylinder group finish in VG condition

Front sight: 0.63 wide, unmarked.

Gas cylinder lock: beveled front, unmarked

Gas cylinder screw: cross slot poppet valve type, marked “P” with hexagon

Stock: walnut, postwar. Circled “P” on pistol grip, stars and eagle on left side. No cracks, about average dings/scratches, very nice appearance

Cheekpad: leather, appears unused, marked “MRT 3-59”. A couple of the grommets are corroded.

Handguards: walnut, no cracks, same condition and color as stock

Buttplate: square plunger, good condition with some finish wear

Accessories: M65 scope case, web sling, T37 flash hider, oiler, front and rear sight covers, op rod handle cover, sectioned cleaning rod set with jag, ratcheting chamber brush
