Springfield Armory M1 Garand, serial number 5852632. This is a CMP correct grade M1 with certificate of authenticity, purchased in 2011. This Garand was manufactured in 1955. It has a Springfield 4-55 barrel with bright bore and a muzzle reading of 1. Postwar Springfield stock has minimal dings and a sharp stars & eagle stamp and circle “P”. All parts are described below and shown in pictures. No import marks. Collector quality rifles such as this were often available at the CMP in 2011, but almost never now.

Receiver: marked “F 6528291” on leg, heat lot T2A. Excellent condition, no pitting, original finish.
Barrel: marked “SA F6535448 4 55 MD 48” in op rod slot, with two “P” marks, “L”, “T”, punch mark, and small stars and eagle stamp. Bore is bright, very good crown and rifling. Chamber is in the white. Chrome pads at gas port.

Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring. Gas cylinder group finish is very good.
Front sight: .63 wide, unmarked
Gas cylinder lock: late “high hump” type, unmarked
Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type marked “O”
Stock: walnut, postwar SA, very firm lockup. Circled “P” on pistol grip, DAS (stars and eagle) on left side. No cracks, fewer than average dings/scratches, very nice appearance.
Handguards: walnut, same condition as stock.
Buttplate: good condition with a little finish wear.
Accessories: sling, used, common web type; oiler and sectioned cleaning rod (these fit in trapdoor); CMP correct grade certificate. Rifle will ship in CMP hard case.
