Price: $1,400.00
Item Number:FW01269

Eduard Kettner (Suhl) 12 ga SxS boxlock shotgun, German with Belgian proofs, serial 1387. 27 1/2” fluid barrels, 2 3/4“ chambers. Very good used condition, receiver and barrels have finish wear but no rust. Bores are excellent, very shiny with no pitting. Barrel serial number matches the receiver. Double triggers with automatic ejectors. Safety is not automatic. Unusual sling swivels on barrel and stock, which appear to be original.

Barrel markings: “EDUARD KETTNER” in tiny letters on top of right barrel, “SUHL” on top of left barrel. Many other markings including Belgian (nitro) proofs are on the barrel and receiver flats, which are quite visible in the photos, so they are not listed here. Our simple choke gauge measures the right barrel at modified choke, and the left full.

The chambers may have been 65 mm (2 1/2)“ originally, but they are 2 3/4” now. There is one “65” on the barrel flat, but this is close to some other markings, so we don’t know if this indicates chamber length.

The walnut Monte Carlo stock with Prince of Wales grip has no cracks or repairs. The grip has a black cap, we don’t know what the material is. The wood of the splinter forend has a tiny crack at a rear corner, where the wood is the thickest, not significant. LOP is 15 3/8” to the front trigger, which is long, but this is with the thick recoil pad presently installed. If the included (probably) original wood buttplate were put on, LOP would be about 14 3/4”. The wood buttplate has its original engraved screws. Stock and forend are checkered. Drop at comb 1 5/8“, drop at heel 2”.

The receiver, trigger guard, release lever, and forend hardware are covered with decorative hand engraving, some of it unusually deep, and all nicely done. These parts were almost certainly case colored originally, which is now essentially gone. We don’t know the date of manufacture, but believe the Suhl marking indicates pre-WWII. The nitro proof marks are “since 1924” so the range is probably about 15 years.

Included: canvas case with leather corners and straps, not original to the gun, original wooden buttplate and screws.
