M1 Garand with custom black textured wood stock. This M1 has a Springfield Armory WW2 era receiver, serial number 17645xx dates to July 1943. Barrel is Springfield dated October 1949 with a good bore. No import marks. Marked parts are Springfield, although some are postwar. All parts are described below and shown in pictures.

This M1 is in very good used condition. The rifle has been disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and test fired. Parts were clean for photos, coated with oil and greased where appropriate when reassembled.

Repro sling and two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) are included.

Springfield Armory M1 sn 17645xx Specs:

 

Receiver: marked “D 28291 29” on leg, heat lot 046C <>. VG condition, not original finish. Minor pitting on the horizontal surface that contacts wood, see photos. This is under the parkerizing, and will not get worse.

Barrel: marked “S-A-10-49, “D 35448-37-A-121A” on top, with small stars and eagle stamp. Bore is bright, exc crown and rifling.

Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Wear (MW): 1, Throat Erosion (TE):  2 1/2

Clip latch: late square front type.

Op rod: flat side, marked “D35382 9 SA”, modified. Good working condition, some pitting at piston end.

Op rod catch: late type, unmarked

Bullet guide: stamped with notch

Follower: late type, marked “11”

Follower arm: no bevel, unmarked

Follower rod: long fork, riveted

Bolt: marked “D28287-12SA S-06<>”

Sight knobs: elevation “NHC”, windage “DRC”

Rear sight cover: late type with ribs

Rear sight aperture: double track

Trigger housing:  marked “D28290-2 SA”. Excellent condition.

Trigger guard: milled WWII type

Trigger: late type, no extra hole

Hammer: marked “C46008-5 SA”

Hammer spring plunger: WWII type with wings

Safety: round top, marked “46015-9SA”

Gas cylinder: narrow sight platform, flat on top of rear ring marked “H”. Gas cylinder group has been refinished. The gas cylinder/barrel fit has been tightened to maximize accuracy.

Front sight: 0.63 wide, unmarked

Gas cylinder lock: postwar “high hump” type, unmarked

Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type, marked “NHC IHC”

Stock and handguards: GI, birch, walnut veneer added in trigger group area to improve lockup. Sealed inside and out with polyurethane, textured with black truck bed liner, with several coats of clear polyurethane over that. Just enough texture to provide extra grip, but not rough.

Sling: new repro

Stock hardware: used, refinished
