Springfield Armory M1 Garand serial number 1844xxx, dating to August 1943. O-66 marked Marine Corps rebuild with fresh matching finish on all parts. SA 11-53 barrel with bright bore. Nice looking postwar Springfield stock. No import marks. All parts are described below and shown in pictures.

 

This rifle is in excellent used condition. Minimal wear on finish of all parts shows little if any firing since the rebuild.

 

The rifle has been disassembled, cleaned and lubricated. Parts were clean for photos, coated with oil and greased where appropriate when reassembled.

 

Sling noted below along with two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo), and canvas bandolier are included.

Springfield M1 sn 1844xxx Specs:

 

 

·         Receiver: marked “D 28291 29” on leg, heat lot B8B<>. Excellent condition, no pitting. Heel is hand engraved “0-66”, meaning rebuilt by the USMC in 1966.

·         Barrel: marked “SA F6535448 11 53 MD37” in op rod slot, with “P” and small stars and eagle stamp. Bore is bright and shiny, excellent crown and rifling.

·         Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Wear (MW): 1, Throat Erosion (TE):  3

·         Clip latch: early round front type.

·         Op rod: flat side, unmodified, marked “D35382 9 SA”. Exc condition, no pitting, very little finish wear.

·         Op rod catch: early type, unmarked

·         Bullet guide: WWII milled type

·         Follower: late type, marked “11”

·         Follower arm: no bevel, unmarked

·         Follower rod: long fork, riveted

·         Bolt: marked “D28287-12SA S-B7<>”

·         Sight knobs: elevation “SSH”, windage “DRC”

·         Rear sight cover: late type with ribs

·         Rear sight aperture: double track

·         Trigger housing:  marked “6528290 IHC K”, no pitting.

·         Trigger guard: stamped with stamped hook

·         Trigger: late type, no extra hole

·         Hammer: marked “5546008 IHC E”

·         Hammer spring plunger: WWII type with wings

·         Safety: round top, marked “C46025-9SA”

·         Gas cylinder: narrow sight platform, round on top of rear ring, probably WRA. Gas cylinder group finish is excellent. The gas cylinder/barrel fit has been tightened to maximize accuracy.

·         Front sight: 0.65 wide, unmarked

·         Gas cylinder lock: beveled front type, unmarked

·         Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type, marked “NHC IHC”

·         Stock: walnut, postwar SA, armory epoxy bedding at floorplate to improve lockup, which is very tight. Circled “P” on pistol grip, lightly marked “A” same place, DAS (stars and eagle) on left side. Also stencil marked rack number “D61” on right side. No cracks, fewer than average dings/scratches but one chip near the elevation knob, excellent appearance.

·         Handguards: walnut, same condition as stock, excellent color match

·         Buttplate: square plunger type, good condition with finish wear.

·         Sling: used, common web type
